About us examples for real estate agents

An About page has to answer one question fast: why you rather than the other three quotes. These are ten different answers to it.

Ten of them follow, written for real estate agents rather than filled in from a template. Your customer is someone selling the house they raised their children in, and what they are weighing up before they get in touch is an agent who disappears after the listing goes up, and a price pitched to win the listing rather than sell the house.

Plain and direct

[Business name] is a real estate agent in [your area]. I handle listing and selling, buyer representation and pricing and valuation. I am a licensed real estate agent, and I show you the comparables, not just a number. If you want a real estate agent who tells a seller the price they do not want to hear, that is the whole pitch.

Use this if you want one paragraph that does the job and nothing more.

The origin story

[Business name] started because [founder name] kept meeting people who had been let down. What they described, over and over, was an agent who disappears after the listing goes up, and a price pitched to win the listing rather than sell the house. So I built the opposite. I am a licensed real estate agent. Licensed, with the local market knowledge that comes from working one area rather than chasing every listing. I start with a valuation that shows you the comparables, not just a number. [Number] years on, most of my work still comes from people passing my name to someone else.

Use this if you started out because you were fed up with how the work was being done.

Names the worry first

Most people looking for a real estate agent are worried about the same thing: an agent who disappears after the listing goes up, and a price pitched to win the listing rather than sell the house. So here is how this works. I start with a valuation that shows you the comparables, not just a number. I answer my own phone. I include photography and staging. I am a licensed real estate agent. None of that should have to be taken on faith — ask, and I will show you.

Use this when people arrive already wary, usually because of a bad experience elsewhere.

Credentials first

[Business name] is licensed and local. Licensed, with the local market knowledge that comes from working one area rather than chasing every listing. I handle listing and selling, buyer representation and pricing and valuation, mostly for someone selling the house they raised their children in. I show you my days-on-market and sale-to-list numbers. Qualifications are the floor rather than the pitch — but you should know they are there before anything else on this page matters.

Use this where the licence or registration is the thing people check before anything else.

Local and rooted

I am a real estate agent based in [your town], and [your town] is where I work. That matters more than it sounds. It means I know the streets, the buildings and the people you are talking about, it means you deal with the same person each time, and it means I am still here later. I handle listing and selling, buyer representation and pricing and valuation. I am a licensed real estate agent, and my reputation here is the only marketing I have ever needed.

Use this if you serve one area properly and that is your advantage over the national outfits.

Walks through the process

Here is what working with me looks like. You get in touch, and I start with a valuation that shows you the comparables, not just a number. I agree what is happening and what it costs, in writing, before anything begins. Then I do the work. I am a licensed real estate agent. I include photography and staging.

Use this if people hesitate because they do not know what happens after they get in touch.

The thing we do differently

Plenty of people will do listing and selling and buyer representation. What I am known for is telling a seller the price they do not want to hear. It sounds like a small thing. It is the difference between a listing that does what you hoped and one that does not. I am a licensed real estate agent. I show you my days-on-market and sale-to-list numbers.

Use this when you can name one specific standard you hold that your competitors do not.

Short

A real estate agent in [your town], licensed and local. I handle listing and selling, buyer representation and pricing and valuation. I show you my days-on-market and sale-to-list numbers. Get a valuation, or call first and ask anything you like.

Under sixty words — Use this when the About section is a sidebar, a footer, or a directory profile.

Small and deliberately so

It is me, not a team and not a call centre. You deal with the same person every time, which is why by the second meeting I already know what we are working with. I am a licensed real estate agent, I handle listing and selling, buyer representation and pricing and valuation, and I take on a limited number of clients so the standard does not slip.

Use this if being small and consistent is the point, rather than something to apologise for.

The promise

My promise is simple: I show you my days-on-market and sale-to-list numbers, and if I get something wrong I put it right at my cost. I am a licensed real estate agent. Licensed, with the local market knowledge that comes from working one area rather than chasing every listing. I handle listing and selling, buyer representation and pricing and valuation for someone selling the house they raised their children in. I start with a valuation that shows you the comparables, not just a number.

Use this if you are willing to put something in writing, and you actually honour it.

Writing for real estate agents: what actually matters

What should a real estate agent’s website say that a generic one does not?

Three things, in this order. That you are licensed and local. That you understand the thing people are actually worried about, which for real estate agents is an agent who disappears after the listing goes up, and a price pitched to win the listing rather than sell the house. And what happens next: a valuation that shows you the comparables, not just a number. Everything else on the page is decoration by comparison.

What does someone selling the house they raised their children in check first?

The credential, then the proof. For real estate agents it sounds like this. I show you my days-on-market and sale-to-list numbers. I answer my own phone. I include photography and staging. Put at least one of those above the fold rather than on a separate page nobody opens.

What is the most common mistake on a real estate agent’s website?

Writing about the business instead of the customer. "We have been established since 1998" answers a question nobody asked. "I start with a valuation that shows you the comparables, not just a number" answers the one they are actually holding. If you only fix one thing, fix that.

How long should the copy be?

Shorter than you think, except where trust is being built. An About page of 120 well-chosen words beats 500 vague ones. The exception is anything explaining an agent who disappears after the listing goes up, and a price pitched to win the listing rather than sell the house — there, specifics earn their length.
